Teeth sensitivity due to Opalescence whitening gel?

Yesterday my orthodontist gave me some Opalescence whitening gel to put in my retainers. He put them in at my appointment and I wore them for about 3 hours before taking them out to eat dinner. No problems there. Last night before going to bed, I put more of the gel in my retainers and wore them all night. Today when I went to eat lunch, one of my top teeth began hurting so bad, I couldn’t even finish eating! I was eating some chicken strips and drinking a soda. What caused the teeth to hurt, was it wearing the gel all night? Should I only wear it for a couple hours during the day? Sorry this is long and thanks in advance for the help.

You should probably only be whitening for 1 hour tops. It is totally normal for your teeth to become sensitive after bleaching. Try using a fluoride toothpaste (Just plain without tartar protection, whitening, ect.). Or ask your dentist about a prescription fluoride toothpaste such as Prevident. Both should help with sensitivity.
