Types of Teeth Whitening Treatments
If your teeth are looking a bit yellow, you’re not alone. Many people deal with teeth that are not their whitest. Many things can cause teeth to become discolored, including everyday beverages like coffee, tea and red wine. Then of course teeth become discolored over time as well. There are all kinds of teeth whitening treatments available to help you smile your brightest.
At your dentist you can get Zoom! Whitening treatments. This takes only a few hours and you leave with incredibly white teeth. The dentist should also send you home with some topical treatments to use and advise you of the proper toothpaste. This is the most effective way to get whiter teeth but also the most expensive, and is not covered by most insurance policies because it is a cosmetic type treatment.
There are similar treatments that can be done at home, they come with a UV light and the whitening solution you need. The UV light supposedly activates the solution and gives you dramatic results in a short period of time. There are whiteners like this that work in tanning beds and stand alone teeth whitening treatment lights that you can use at home.
Another one of the most popular teeth whitening treatments is the tray system. You fill the mouth trays with the whitening gel or paste, then insert them into your mouth for a specified amount of time. Often you must do this once or twice daily for weeks to see results. Some formulas do work faster. The good thing about whitening trays is that they give you comfort as well as good coverage for your teeth.
Many people like the whitening strips. When first introduced, these strips were hard to get adhered to your teeth and even bleached your fingertips. Even though they work, many users experienced a lot of sensitivity. These days whitening strips have been improved. They are designed to fit better and work in less time. There are some strips that actually dissolve so you don’t have to remove them.
Whitening pens are another one of the top teeth whitening treatments available. Made by many brands both low and high end, these pens allow you to paint on the whitening solution. Once it is dry, you’re all set. There is usually no need to rinse after using a whitening pen, but check the product instructions to make sure.

Can you whiten/bleach molars?
I’m going to have my teeth bleached with zoom whitening but my dentist told me they’re only gonna put the stuff on my front teeth up to the canines as it won’t whiten the molars/back teeth since the UV light can’t reach it anyways. And if they position UV closer to it, I may get sensitivity or some kinda problem with my gums and/or tissue of the inner cheeks. Can somebody confirm this? Have you had your molars bleached? Experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I perform Zoom! bleaching treatment at the dental office I work at and there is no way to do the molars. There cannot be ANY pink touched by the light and the cheek retractor is stuffed with gauze so that the inside of your mouth isn’t visible, including your molars.
I would suggest asking your/a dentist that has a hand-held UV blue light cure for procedures like composite and sealants. Ask them if you can have your molars bleached with some bleach and this light, using a rubber dam. They’ll know exactly what you’re talking about if you use that wording and they will tell you if they can do this for you or not. Good luck!
